Mountaineer Enews Platform

I developed Mountaineer Enews, an internal news website and automated HTML email newsletter system, streamlining campus communications and allowing personalized news delivery through subscription functionalities.

Summary

After graduating, I secured my first job as a web developer for West Virginia University’s news department. One of my significant projects was building Mountaineer Enews, an internal news website for faculty and staff, accompanied by an automated HTML email newsletter system. This system was designed to streamline campus communications by automating the distribution of news and updates to faculty, staff, and students. It included a subscription functionality allowing users to opt in or out of specific news categories, ensuring personalized content delivery.

The Mountaineer Enews project involved developing a robust backend to manage and compile news content from various sources across the university. I implemented an intuitive interface for content editors, making it easy to input and manage articles, images, and other multimedia elements. The system automated the email generation process, ensuring that newsletters were sent out consistently and on schedule, reducing the manual workload for the communications team.

To ensure broad compatibility and accessibility, the HTML emails were meticulously designed and tested across different email clients and devices using software such as Litmus. This project not only enhanced the efficiency of campus communications but also improved engagement by delivering timely and relevant content directly to the university community’s inboxes.
